Iโm starting to understand why some billionaires and Silicon Valleyโadjacent intellectualsโoften orbiting places like Stanford are obsessed with the idea that reality isnโt real at all & that weโre living in a simulation.
โWhat if this is all code?โ
2/5
sounds innocent & playful. Philosophical, even.
But this idea does something irreversible 2 our collective moral spine.
If reality is just a game, then bodies become avatars, pain becomes a glitch โandโ death becomes a reset.
Once you accept that, almost anything (if not
3/5
everything) becomes easier to justify.
Because if this isnโt real, then nothing truly counts: suffering, innocence and responsibility lose their meaning.
Youโre no longer hurting a human being. Youโre interacting w an object inside a system. Playing w it.
This is where
4/5
empathy dies.
Historically, every system that needed permission 2 do the unthinkable first had 2 declare its victims unreal: soulless, subhuman, symbolic, expendable. They are not fully human, not like us, not real in the same way.
The simulation theory is just the latest,
5/5
cleanest, most tech-friendly version of that move. & this time their victim is the whole ๐
The moment you declare the ๐ unreal, you dnโt bcm enlightened & mature. You bcm unaccountbl.
Very convenient 4 ฯ opaths
โด many ๐ 2 our writer. Not 4 (micro) sociopaths either..
